In the News: Skilled Nursing News – Acute / Post-acute Collaboration

This week, Olio Founder & CEO Ben Forrest connected with Alex Spanko, editor of Skilled Nursing News. Skilled Nursing News is an online, independent source for news and updates within the skilled nursing industry. This news source offers industry professionals a unique perspective into the most up-to-date information to help them make the best decisions in their day-to-day operations.

Forrest’s conversation with Spanko and the resulting article covers the struggle most hospitals and physicians face in effectively communicating with and following patients in post-acute environments such as skilled nursing facilities. The article then explores the ways skilled nursing facilities can utilize Olio’s software platform–free of charge– to share their residents’ performances with all members of the care team to improve patient outcomes.

Spanko’s article also dives into Forrest’s background as a sales manager with Stryker, a medical equipment firm, and his early interest in care collaboration after working with physicians who expressed a frustration about patient’s post-acute experience seeming “out of their hands.” Olio launched with its first two hospital partners in January, with skilled nursing partners accounting for about 70% of the company’s current user base. The company’s $2.5 million funding round will allow Olio to further extend its reach to health systems and post-acute providers, such as skilled nursing facilities, to improve patient outcomes on a national level.
